Shukla Panchami
Gujarati festival on Kartik Shukla Panchami. Businesses reopen after Diwali. Auspicious for starting new ventures.
Labh Panchami Puja Muhurat
06:45 AM to 10:30 AM
3 hr 45 min · Pratah Kala, the first third of the day
The new ledgers are opened in the morning, in the first third of the day, while Panchami lasts.
Labh Panchami, also revered as Saubhagya Panchami and Labh Pacham, falls on the fifth day of the bright half of Kartik, marking the official reopening of business and commercial activities after the Diwali holiday break.
In Gujarat and Western India, shops, factories, offices, and commercial establishments remain closed from Diwali night through Bhai Dooj. On Labh Panchami, merchants open their shutters, write 'Shubh' and 'Labh' in vermilion on their cash registers and ledgers, and perform puja to seek honest profits (Labh) and long-lasting good fortune (Saubhagya) in the newly commenced Vikram Samvat year.
The word 'Labh' signifies benefit, prosperity, and spiritual gain, while 'Saubhagya' denotes supreme good fortune. In spiritual terms, true 'Labh' is not merely commercial profit, but living a virtuous, ethical life that brings lasting inner fulfillment.
Tradition holds that worshipping Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on this fifth day eliminates any residual stagnation or obstacles from the previous year, ensuring that commercial enterprise remains aligned with Dharma and community welfare.
No fasting required; it is a joyous day of commercial reopening and festive snacks.
Celebrated across Gujarat and Maharashtra with massive enthusiasm in business districts, wholesale markets, and textile hubs.
In Jainism, this day is celebrated as 'Gyana Panchami' (Day of Knowledge), where holy scriptures are dusted, cleaned, worshipped with flowers, and preserved.
In Gujarat, Labh Panchami is the official opening day of commerce after Diwali. Business owners, industrialists, and shopkeepers unlock their offices, write 'Shubh' and 'Labh' in red vermilion on their new account books (Chopda), and perform prayers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi for a successful financial year.
