Offering of arghya to the star Agastya (Canopus) at its heliacal rising.
The sage Agastya is identified with Canopus, the second-brightest star. Its reappearance in the pre-dawn sky after weeks of invisibility is marked with an arghya, a water offering. The star's rising is traditionally held to purify water, and it coincides with the point in the monsoon when rivers start to clear.
Water offering; no particular food.
