Gujarati festival where married women observe a fast for their husband's well-being. Celebrated before Nag Panchami.
A women's vrat kept for the wellbeing of sons. Cows and calves are worshipped, and the day's central rule is that nothing made from wheat, or anything cut with a knife, is eaten, cow's milk and milk products are also avoided, in deference to the calf. It opens the cluster of Gujarati Shravan observances that runs to Janmashtami.
Millet and moong; no wheat, no milk, nothing chopped.
