Bengal's Diwali night

Sunday · Krishna Amavasya
Night worship of Goddess Kali on the Kartik Amavasya, observed at Nishita (midnight).
Where the rest of India worships Lakshmi, Bengal worships Kali, on the same new moon, in a completely different register. Worship is at midnight, with hibiscus, and traditionally with offerings including meat and fish, which is unusual. Barasat and Naihati hold the largest pandals. Ramakrishna's association with Dakshineswar shaped the modern form.
Khichuri, fried vegetables, and non-vegetarian offerings in many traditions. Lamps as elsewhere.
