Phalguna Shukla Dwitiya: Lord Krishna and Radha played with flowers at Vrindavan. The entire day is considered naturally auspicious with no muhurat restrictions. Marks the start of Holi festivities.
Radha, unhappy at Krishna's long absence, was consoled when he returned and played holi with flowers rather than colour. The trees are said to have bloomed at once. It opens the Braj Holi season, which runs about forty days.
Krishna's idol is showered with flowers and dressed in flower ornaments. Temples in Braj are decorated entirely in blossom. The day is regarded as free of any inauspicious period, some traditions treat it as an abujh muhurat, so weddings are held on it without calculation.
Sweets, and panchamrit. Flower-scented preparations in Braj temples.
Braj, Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana, Nandgaon, is the heart of it. Rajasthan observes it too. Little known outside the Krishna belt.
