Worship of Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and engineer of the gods. Factories, workshops, tools and machinery are worshipped. Falls on Kanya Sankranti day.
Vishwakarma, architect of the gods, builder of Dwarka, Lanka, Indraprastha and the divine weapons. He is the patron of everyone who makes things.
Tools and machines are worshipped, not people. Factories, workshops, garages, printing presses and construction sites shut down, clean and decorate their equipment, and perform puja on it. Machinery is garlanded and not operated for the day.
Community meals at workplaces, khichdi and prasad distributed to workers.
Overwhelmingly eastern India, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam, where it's a major industrial holiday, with kite-flying in Bengal. Also observed in Karnataka and among engineering and artisan communities elsewhere. Little observed in the west and north.
