Planetary positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, the same engine professional astrological software uses. From those positions the five angas (tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, vara) and every muhurat window are derived for the exact coordinates and timezone of the city you have selected.

Nothing is looked up from a stored table, and on the web there is no offline fallback engine. If the calculation cannot be run, the page shows an error rather than a less accurate answer.

Because that is how a panchang has always been read. The tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara shown against a date are the ones running at that city’s sunrise, and they hold for the day even though the tithi itself may change hours later. It is also why the same calendar date can carry a different tithi in Ahmedabad and in Kolkata: their sunrises are not the same moment.

Usually both, for different places or different conventions. Three things move a date legitimately: the city, because sunrise decides which tithi owns the day; the month naming system, Amavasyant or Purnimant; and the regional calendar, since Gujarat, Bengal and Tamil Nadu do not all observe the same festival on the same rule.

Set your own city, check which month system is selected, and pick your regional calendar on the festivals page. If it still looks wrong after that, tell us. Send the date and the city, and a genuine error gets fixed for everyone.

Amavasyant by default, the convention across Gujarat, Maharashtra and South India, where the month ends at the new moon. Purnimant, used across the north, is a switch away in settings. The tithis are identical under both; only the month name attached to them differs, which is why the same day can read Shravana in one system and Bhadrapada in the other.

Any of about 144,000 cities worldwide, changed from the header at any time. Every timing on the page recomputes for it. Dates run from 1900 to 2100, so you can look up a birth date decades back or a muhurat years ahead.

They are computed, not stored. Each festival has a rule, such as a tithi in a masa, a nakshatra on a weekday, or a solar ingress, and that rule is run against the computed panchang for whatever year you ask for. That is why dates exist for years no printed calendar covers yet, and why they do not need updating annually.

Lahiri ayanamsa and Whole Sign houses by default, the standard combination in Indian Vedic astrology. The kundali tool lets you switch the ayanamsa to B. V. Raman, Krishnamurti, Fagan-Bradley, Yukteshwar or tropical, and toggle between True and Mean Rahu, if you follow a different school.

Partly. The Moon based results, such as janma rashi, nakshatra and Vimshottari dasha, move slowly and stay broadly usable with an approximate time. The lagna does not. The ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours, so the whole house structure, and anything built on it, depends on the birth time being right. Treat a chart from a guessed time as indicative only.

Each reply from Ask Panchang or Ask Jyotish costs one message. Premium includes 30 messages every billing period, and you can also buy message packs on their own, starting at ₹20 for 6.

Purchased messages do not expire while your account is open. Subscription messages refresh each period and do not carry over. If a message fails through a fault on our side we refund the credit; a reply you did not like is not a fault. See the top-up page for the current ladder.

From Account → Subscription, at any time. Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not refund the period you are in, and you keep paid features until that period ends. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and there is one active subscription per account.

Message credits are delivered instantly and consumed as you use them, so purchases are generally not refundable. We do refund a double charge, a payment where the credits never arrived, a sustained fault on our side that made a paid feature unusable, or a feature we withdraw that you paid for and had not used. Ask within 7 days with your payment ID via the contact page, and we respond within 7 working days. The full policy is in the Terms.

No. Payments are handled by Razorpay, and card details go straight to them. They never reach us. We keep the payment reference and the amount so we can match a purchase to your account, which is what you see on the payment history page.

Not to read anything. An account is needed only for the things that follow you around: AI chat, cloud synced charts, notifications and purchases. Sign-in is through Google, which sends us your name, email address and profile picture URL, and nothing else.

Account → Delete Account, in the app or on the site. Unused credits and any remaining subscription period are forfeited on deletion, so use them or ask for a refund first if that matters. What is deleted, what is retained and for how long is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Yes. It runs the same calculations, adds festival and vrat reminders, and keeps working without a connection. The “Get the App” link in the header and footer will take you to it, and get in touch if you hit a problem.
